    COVID-19 School Closures - Information

**Schools will be closed through the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year **

    Dr. Monte Stewart
    Principal's Message 2019-2020

    (En Español)

    Dear Parents/Guardian:

Welcome to Elizabeth T. Hughbanks Elementary School and 2019-20 school year. .  I serve a caring school community focused on student learning. Here at Hughbanks, we strive to lead all staff in educating students academically with high expectations and by meeting their social emotional needs.  My commitment to this school community is ensuring our staff exhibits the Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) Expectations:

    • Be Kind
    • Be Safe,
    • Be Respectful
    • Be Responsible

As principal, my primary goal is to provide each student a safe, secure learning school environment, and a highly rigorous and effective comprehensive educational program.  As the school year progresses, I will continue to monitor the various policies and procedures that have been implemented to ensure the safety of all students.  Parent Communication is an important aspect of a child’s education. I encourage your involvement, your questions and active participation in all aspects of the school through School Site Council (SSC), English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC), African American Parent Advisory Committee (AAPAC) and Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).

School is your child’s place of work and learning must be taken seriously.  Please help your child develop good attendance habits by bringing him/her to school on time every day.  Children who arrive at school at 7:35 a.m. have time to visit with friends and relax before the workday begins.  The tardy bell rings at 8:00 a.m.   Students arriving after the tardy bell must get a pass from the office.

I would like to thank you all in advance for all the wonderful contributions you will make to the students and staff at Hughbanks.  I look forward to meeting all of the parents and/or guardians of Hughbanks Elementary School within the coming weeks and months.  With my “open door “ policy, I strongly believe that we will build a stronger school and community partnership.

I am looking forward to working with you and your children this year and to another exciting school year here at Hughbanks Elementary.

    Proud Principal,

    Monte Stewart, Ed.D

    Attendance Matters

Attending Step Up is a great way to make-up absences!

    2020 Dates

    February - 22, 29

    March - 28

    April - 4, 11, 25

    May - 2, 16

Want to help your student succeed? Make sure he/she has great attendance. Students who arrive on time daily tend to do better in school than students who are arrive late. Students who arrive late have already missed an important part of their day: the chance to socialize, and prepare mentally for the day ahead without feeling rushed. If a student is late by only 5 minutes a day have missed out on 25 minutes of instruction!  Please help your child by bringing them to school on time. Students who eat breakfast on campus may arrive as early as 7:20. The bell to go play rings at 7:35; the first bell to line up rings at 7:55. Teachers pick up their students and are in class ready to begin at 8:00 a.M. Thank you for your support.

Students can come between 7:20-7:50. There is going to be a competition for classes and students can only win if they are on time and at school. The class with the best attendance rate will win a trophy and a party at the end of the month. Students will perfect attendance and with no tardies will receive a trophy and a  BBQs at the end of each trimester. Lots of rewards for those that are here at school and on time. Please be at school before 7:50 !!!!!!!!!!!
